Project : The project for the Rehabilitation of the Medium Wave Radio Transmission
Client : Fiji Broadcasting Corporation (FBC)

Contractor : NBK Corporation

Work Summary :

1) Rebuilding of the Transmitter House (Takaoka Engineering Co., Ltd.)
2) Installation of AM transmitters (Denki Kogyo Co., Ltd.)
3) Installation of two transmitters: Capacity of 10kW each (NEC Corporation)
4) Setting of new frequencies: 338kHz (Radio Fiji 1) and 990kHz (Fiji Gold FM)

 

This project was completed on August 14th, 2017.
Republic of Fiji consists of over 300 small islands in South Pacific. The radio broadcast is effective device for notifying about occurrence of natural disaster such as an earthquake, a tsunami, or a cyclone to Fijian people. However, the transmitters of the Fiji Broadcasting Corporation (hereby FBC) which provides the state-managed broadcast were worn out, and the radio was able to be broadcasted to the capital city Suva and some islands only.
The project for the Rehabilitation of the Medium Wave Radio Transmission engaged to remodel of facilities expansion and reinforcement such as installing a medium wave antenna system and two 10kW transmitters for FBC. Takaoka was in charge of construction of radio transmitter facility. By this project, FBC could broadcast information of the administrative services and the meteorological phenomenon to all islands of Fiji.
