Republic of Sierra Leone / Contract Award for The Project for the Extension of Power Distribution Network along the Freetown Peninsula
Takaoka Engineering Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as TEC; President: Akihiko Ichikawa;
Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo), a subsidiary of Takaoka Toko Co., Ltd. (President: Takashi
Ichinose; Head Office: Koto-ku, Tokyo), has been awarded a contract for The Project for
the Extension of Power Distribution Network along the Freetown Peninsula by Electricity
Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) of Republic of Sierra Leone.
Most of infrastructures including power generation facilities and distribution networks were
severely damaged during the civil war from 1991 to 2002. Power supply did not keep up with
increasing demand in the midst of economic recovery after the prolonged civil war.
Insufficient power supply was one of the bottlenecks for the industrial development and the
improvement of basic social services (such as education, medical services, and so on). TEC
has completed 3 important projects in energy sector in this country in the past 20 years, and
this new contract is the 4th project.
This project aims to expand and stabilize the power supply in the southwestern part of the
Freetown Peninsula through the construction of two new substations and the expansion of the
power distribution network. TEC and Nishizawa Corporation (President: Daisuke Hattori;
Head Office: Chuo-ku, Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture) have formed a consortium to undertake
the project. TEC takes full responsibility for engineering, civil work and building construction,
and procurement, transportation and installation of electrical equipment.
We will continue to actively expand our business activities in African countries to contribute
to the improvement of people's lives and economic development through construction of
power infrastructure such as power generation facilities, transmission lines, substations and
distribution networks.
