The Republic of Vanuatu / The project for the construction of hydropower station
     In Espiritu Santo Island 
 

Takaoka Engineering Co., LTD. (hereinafter TEC, President : Akihiko Ichikawa ; Head Office : Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo),
a subsidiary of Takaoka Toko Co., Ltd. (President : Takashi Ichinose ; Head Office : Koto-ku, Tokyo) has recently
taken an order of a complete set of electrical equipments including 500kW waterwheel generators (2 units),
switchboards, transformers, and monitoring and control systems from Dai Nippon Construction (President: Masahiko Matsu) which has been awarded a contract for the project for the construction of hydropower station in Espiritu
Santo Island by the Ministry of Climate Change Adaptation, Meteorology & Geo-Hazards Environment, Energy and
Disaster Management of the Republic of Vanuatu. The project will be implemented under Japan's grant aid and is
scheduled to be completed in March 2027.


The project will construct a new run-of-river small hydro power station on the Sarakata River in Santo Island
and aim to meet the increasing demand for electricity, realize a clean and stable electricity supply, and reduce
the dependence on imported fossil fuels.This will improve the level of industrial activities and citizens' lives and
also contribute to overcoming the vulnerability of country’s economic infrastructure through climate change countermeasures (mitigation).


TEC has completed Assistance for Stabilization of Electricity Supply (The Economic and Social Development
Programme [ Japan's Grant Aid]) in the Republic of Kiribati in July 2023 and in Tuvalu in August 2023. We will
continue to expand our business actively in Oceania region in order to contribute to the improvement of people's
lives and economic development.
