Completion ceremony of “Reinforcement of Power Distribution in Zanzibar Island Generation System” was held at Mtoni Substation on June 11th, 2013.

There were Mr. Ali Mohammed Shein (President of Zanzibar, the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar), government official of Zanzibar, parties of ZECO, Mr. Okada(Japanese ambassador in Tanzania), Mr. Oonishi(Director of JICA Tanzania office)、and 300 guests who were invited by ZECO, and the ceremony was conducted successfully.

 

Mr. Okada gave a speech by Swahili, and local songs were performed at the ceremony.

During president’s speech, the guests and members of ZECO gave a glad shout and were pleased by this completion of the project.

 

Zanzibar Island is one of the best resort in Africa, but the development of mainland was left behind. The decrepit power electric equipment, lack of power supply, blackout, and chronic accidents have occurred frequently, which in consequence have interrupted the tourism Business that is Zanzibar’s main industry and development of economy.
