held in Lagos, Nigeria
On August 17, 2026, the commissioning ceremony was held in the Apapa Road Substation, which
was rehabilitated and upgraded by the "Project for Emergency Rehabilitation and Reinforcement of
Lagos Transmission Substations," under Japanese government grant aid.
The ceremony was attended by Hitoshi Kozaki, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of the Embassy of
Japan in Nigeria; Keiji Ishigame, Chief Representative of the JICA Nigeria Office; Joseph
Olasunkanmi Tegbe, Minister of Power for the Federal Republic of Nigeria; and Sule Ahmed
Abdulaziz, Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria. (Akihiko Ichikawa, President
of Takaoka Engineering Co., Ltd. attended the ceremony on behalf of the company.)
Takaoka Engineering Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Akihiko Ichikawa;
hereinafter "TEC"), a subsidiary company of Takaoka Toko Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Koto-ku, Tokyo;
President: Takashi Ichinose), formed a consortium with Toyota Tsusho Corporation (Head Office:
Nagoya, Aichi; President and CEO: Toshimitsu Imai) and signed a contract with Nigeria's Ministry of
Power in March 2023 for the "Project for Emergency Rehabilitation and Reinforcement of Lagos
Transmission Substations." TEC collectively handled all EPC-related work, including engineering,
civil and construction works, procurement, and installation of electrical equipment, as well as
maintenance and operational training in collaboration with partner companies from multiple countries.
This project aims to improve the stability and reliability of power supply to port facilities, including
Lagos Port, Nigeria's largest port, and surrounding industrial areas by upgrading the substation
equipment at the Apapa Road Substation, a core power facility in Lagos, Nigeria's economic center.
In addition to helping build the foundation for high-quality economic growth, this project will
contribute to promoting sustainable economic activities in the surrounding areas, including Japanese
companies operating locally. It is also expected to contribute to the improvement of living standards
and the development of local communities.
TEC will continue to actively expand business operations across Africa, where ongoing growth is
expected. The company remains committed to enhancing living standards and economic development
through power infrastructure projects encompassing transmission, substations, distribution, and
generation.
