The Kingdom of Lesotho / The Project for Small Hydropower Improvement

Takaoka Engineering Corporation (hereinafter TEC; President: Akihiko Ichikawa; Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo),    a subsidiary of Takaoka Toko Co., Ltd. (President: Takashi Ichinose; Head Office: Koto-ku, Tokyo), has been awarded  a contarct by the Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA) of the Kingdom of Lesotho in southern Africa for the Project for Small Hydropower Improvement.

The project is to construct a small hydropower generation facility at the Ktse Dam, the largest dam in the country,
and is funded by a grant from the Japanese government. TEC and Marubeni Protex Corporation (President: Kentaro Kai, Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo) have formed a consortium to undertake the project, with TEC taking full responsibility for engineering, civil works, and procurement and installation of electrical equipment.

Lesotho is dependent on imports for approximately 58% of its electricity needs, and expanding its power generation capacity is a urgent issue for energy security. This project will contribute to the stabilization of electricity supply by
upgrading small hydropower generation facilities at the Katse dam, the largest of its kind in Lesotho, thereby
increasing the country's capacity to generate electricity from renewable energy sources.

TEC completed the Project for the Improvement of Substations and Distribution Network Phase 3 (Japanese Government Grant Assistance) in August 2022, and is currently executing contracts for the Improvement of Substations in
Lilongwe, Malawi (Japanese Government Grant Assistance) and the Emergency Rehabilitation and Reinforcement of
Lagos Transmission Substations, Nigeria (Japanese Government Grant Assistance). Lesotho is the tenth country in
Africa to receive such a contract. In the African region, which is expected to continue growing in the future, we will
continue to expand our business actively in order to contribute to the improvement of people's lives of and economic development through the construction of electric power facilities such as power transmission, substation, distribution, and power generation.
